We’ve compiled a list of three great ways to come together as a family (indoors!) while teaching your children about prayer & Christianity.
Put on a Christian play or puppet show
If your children have a favorite Bible story, help them reenact it. You can spend some quality time together finding costumes and props around the house, and then preparing for the show. If you have a smaller family, improvise! You can use puppets, toys, or other stuffed animals as the characters and have your children ‘direct’ them. Kids will have a great time recreating their favorite stories, and you can pop popcorn and set up other stuffed animals and dolls as audience members to help you watch the show.
Have an Art Night
Children of all ages will enjoy rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands a little dirty. To make craft time more Christ-centered, you can ask your kids what God’s love means to them, and then have them either use fingerpaints or brushes to create an abstract, one-of-a-kind piece of art! After the paint dries, you can have them cut out crosses to paste on top, or cut out the painting itself into the shape of a cross. Hang them in your home to remind your family of God’s love as you go about your lives.
Write down well-known names and stories on index cards, and then split up into teams. Set a timer for a minute, and have one member of a team be the artist while the rest of their team tries to guess what they’re drawing. Tally up the number of correct guesses, and then repeat the process for the other team. You can play as many rounds as you like. Noah, Adam and Eve, Jonah, The Ark, The Garden of Eden, Jesus, angels, prayer, heaven, David and Goliath, and the Red Sea are just a few of the nearly endless possibilities you and your family can draw and guess together! For more active fun, you can follow the same rules, but play charades instead!
The winter months are a great time of year to create robust, Christ-centered memories with your family – all it takes is a little creativity! Here at CornerStone Christian Academy & Tykes, we understand the importance of implementing a Christian curriculum in an academic environment, and we’ve been proud members of the Las Vegas private school community since 2001.
